Concrete Sidewalks & Walkways
Safe, level pathways that connect your property and stand up to daily foot traffic.

Why Sidewalk Quality Matters
A cracked, uneven sidewalk isn't just ugly. It's a safety hazard and a liability. When someone trips on your property, you're responsible. That's why professional concrete installation matters more for sidewalks than almost any other surface.
Quality sidewalks stay level for decades. They don't settle unevenly or crack into trip hazards. They handle Newton's freeze-thaw cycles, snow removal, and constant foot traffic without breaking down. The key is doing the underground work right, because once concrete is poured, there's no easy fix for settling or cracking.
How We Build Sidewalks That Last
Most sidewalk problems start before any concrete gets poured. Poor drainage, inadequate base preparation, or wrong concrete mix causes the failures you see. We follow a proven process that prevents these issues.
Every sidewalk and walkway we install includes:
- •Site evaluation: We check drainage, soil conditions, and tree roots that could cause problems
- •Proper excavation: Dig down to stable soil and remove organic material that settles
- •Compacted base: 4 inches of gravel, compacted in layers for maximum stability
- •Correct thickness: Minimum 4 inches for walkways, more for areas with vehicle traffic
- •Strategic joints: Expansion joints and control cuts that prevent random cracking
- •Non-slip finish: Broom texture that provides traction when wet or icy
Meeting Newton Building Standards
Newton has specific requirements for sidewalks and walkways, especially those connecting to public sidewalks. Width, slope, and drainage all need to meet code. We know these requirements and build accordingly, so you don't have compliance issues down the road.
Accessibility matters too. If your walkway serves as a main entrance, it needs proper slope (1:12 maximum for wheelchair access), adequate width (36 inches minimum), and appropriate transitions at changes in elevation. We design walkways that work for everyone who uses them. Similar attention to detail applies to all our concrete surface projects.
Design That Works
Your walkways should do more than connect point A to point B. Good design considers how people actually move through your property. We plan paths that feel natural, avoid awkward turns, and account for snow removal access. Width matters too. A 3-foot walkway works for one person. A 4-5 foot path lets two people walk comfortably side by side.
You also have finish options beyond standard concrete. Stamped patterns can create the look of brick or stone pavers. Colored concrete adds visual interest. Exposed aggregate provides extra texture and slip resistance. We'll help you choose finishes that match your home and fit your budget while keeping the focus on creating a safe, durable walking surface.
